My first day was scary for all the reasons you would expect - you don’t know where to go, or who anyone is. I didn’t immediately have a specific job to get on with. I was told to learn about the project and given lots of drawings to look at. People talked in acronyms I didn’t understand.

I am currently seconded to Kier Engineering Services (our specialist engineering and design company) as part of my Institution of Civil Engineers chartership training. Normally I am based on site with Kier London, where I have worked on a broad range of jobs, including new schools and office redevelopments. |

I was attracted by Kier’s reputation in the construction industry and joined the business as a graduate civil engineer more than 25 years ago. My site experience has included major civil engineering contracts such as the Dinorwic Pumped Storage Scheme in North Wales and the CTRL Kings Cross development. I have also worked on building projects including hospitals and industrial plants. |
