    A Northern perspective

Kier in the North

Kier is generating over £2.5bn of wider economic activity across the north of England. We achieve this by offering a unique breadth of capabilities, which enables us to bring together the right skills from across our specialist business streams, who between them employ over 5,500 people in the north, enabling them to provide an integrated offer to our clients based there.

Following recent legislative change, we have recognised that there has been a substantial shift in the landscape in which our public sector clients operate. This has encouraged local authorities to work more collaboratively through involvement in bodies such as local enterprise partnerships, where public and private sector organisations come together to help determine local economic priorities and lead economic growth and job creation within the local area. Against a backdrop of changing landscapes, the Northern Powerhouse has been created.

We have successfully operated across the north of England for decades. Our highways business for example is working with partners such as Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Highways England. This document shows a sample of our activity.

The wealth of experience we have with northern local authority clients, as well as wider public and private sector organisations, strategic delivery bodies, and central government, means we are able to offer clients experience and insight to address their needs. We support our clients to realise and maximise the value of their assets at every stage of the life-cycle, from negotiating finance and planning permission through to constructing buildings and infrastructure, undertaking facilities management, asset management, maintenance and much more.

Our growing operational presence in the north means we are also able to have a meaningful impact on wider social issues through such activities as training and employment. As we continue to expand within the region, so too will our corporate responsibility footprint. Being a responsible business means we also have to be ethical, conducting our business operations and services with the highest integrity and ensuring that all our supply chain partners do the same. Acting ethically, particularly in dealing with our clients, their customers and our own employees, remains a core part of how we do business.

We see our job as helping to keep the world around us working. We believe this involves people working together, operating safely, solving problems, sharing knowledge and solutions, overcoming challenges and helping each other to excel.
