Kier preferred for multi-million pound facilities management contract

Kier Facilities Services is preferred partner for a five-year contract, worth £1.4m per annum, to provide a total facilities management (FM) service for the NHS Kirklees and NHS Calderdale Primary Care Trusts.
Kier will provide both hard and soft FM services to over 50 buildings in the west Yorkshire region, varying in size from 50sq m to over 3,000sq m. As well as M&E, energy & utilities management, grounds maintenance and waste & recycling services, the company will provide pest control; security, portering and cleaning services; and catering and vending. It will also provide linen and laundry services and operate a 24-hour helpdesk.
Kier was given the task of rationalising the FM service for the Trusts which, together, are responsible for the health care provision of over 600,000 people and employ more than 1,800 staff, and bringing together a number of services that had previously been outsourced or performed in-house. Kier transferred over 70 staff through the TUPE transfer process and integrated the employees of both third party suppliers and NHS staff.
A spokesperson for Kirklees and Calderdale Primary Care Trusts commented: “The timescale for mobilisation was challenging but achieved and problems which arose were resolved promptly and efficiently. There has been a lot of positive feedback from users on the new service, in particular the response to work requests and the ‘one-stop-shop’ principle of the single helpdesk.”
