The Board recognises that the Group’s short and long-term economic development can and should be achieved only through a responsible approach to social, environmental and ethical issues (SEE). To this end it has identified a clear set of objectives which are derived from the Board’s assessment of the primary SEE risks and opportunities facing the Group.
The executive directors are responsible for the implementation of these objectives within their divisions and report to the Board periodically as to progress or when material issues arise. The Board is also kept informed of SEE issues through the mechanisms described further below.
Recognising the need to lead by example, the induction programme for new members of the Board includes training in SEE issues.
As part of our commitment to provide leadership in raising the awareness and understanding of sustainability in our workforce, members of our supply chain, our clients and other stakeholders, a new document, entitled Strategy for Sustainability has now been published.
