COVID-19 (Coronavirus) statement

21 April 2020

Our teams across the Group work tirelessly to deliver vital infrastructure and services to communities across the UK.

Across our sectors, we maintain the UK’s highways networks, deliver vital maintenance to peoples’ homes, provide FM services to the NHS, build schools and hospitals, deliver critical national infrastructure and provide key services to the water, gas, power, telecoms and rail sectors.

We are responding to Government and our clients who are clear that these activities must continue.

On 31 March, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy Alok Sharma confirmed in an open letter to the construction industry: ‘Whether by building temporary hospital wards, installing complex and life-saving oxygen systems, constructing the infrastructure that society needs to function or ensuring that people have safe and healthy homes to live in, you are delivering for our Nation through this difficult time.’

On 1 April, the Construction Leadership Council's co-chair Andy Mitchell, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister suggesting a series of measure to help sustain industry through the COVID-19 and boost recovery. The letter was co-signed by all members of the Construction Industry Taskforce, including Kier and you can read it in full here.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our people is our number one priority. We have reviewed all of our sites to ensure that we are operating in a way that continues to comply with the Construction Leadership Council’s site operating procedures. Where we are unable to comply, operations have been stopped.

The situation is fast-moving and dynamic. We are therefore continuously reviewing our response to it and are adapting our procedures so as to continue to deliver our services in a safe and responsible way.
