On behalf of Brent Council, our building surveyors and building services engineers are designing and project managing a five-year capital repair programme for 46 of the borough’s schools. The schools concerned range from Victorian to modern buildings. Works include repairs to drainage systems, roofing, windows, building structures and parapets. Schemes vary in complexity and contract value, from £90,000 to £1,300,000. All involve working in occupied schools.
We are working closely with Brent to optimise programme efficiency. This includes rescheduling works to minimise impacts on school operations and reduce costs. In addition, we are making specification improvement recommendations where our experience shows that the council would benefit from a better long-term solution. For example, we identified a school needing major structural repairs to a failing parapet and amended budgeting and programming around this. Our recommendations have also included postponing major repairs on one building, whilst we and our client assess its future viability in more detail.
