Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council commissioned our team to refresh the business case and produce a delivery strategy, master programme, risk register and stakeholder engagement plan for a proposed new municipal office building. The completed business case confirmed the benefits achievable from developing a new, 8,000m2 building to house 2,000 council staff, partner organisations, a customer service centre and Rochdale Central Library, along with retail units.
We project managed the design and procurement processes, the remediation of the chosen site and the enabling works; followed by the construction and fit out of the new building. Once the building was complete we also project managed the decant of 2,000 RMBC staff from 33 sites.
Delivered to the highest of standards, the new building, Number One Riverside, illustrates the ‘open for business’ attitude of the town. By bringing employees once spread across 33 sites into one office, productivity has increased as travelling time has fallen.
Restoring an iconic building, taking part in feasibility studies to decide the best use of the building, working on the project to turn it into a seven-screen cinema with restaurants, coffee shop and retail units, winning multiple industry awards and creating something of huge importance to local people.
Creating a new visitor centre at this Site of Special Scientific Interest after the previous one was damaged by a tidal surge, ensuring its protection from flooding and its coastal position, incorporating sustainable features and refurbishing an 1800s coastguard building to be used as an exhibition space.
