Kier has been appointed by Burnley College as preferred bidder to deliver a £5.5m teaching block and sports centre extension at the site. The project has been procured through the Procure North West framework.

Burnley College has seen a significant increase in student numbers in recent years and to provide for that increase, Kier will be delivering a new BREEAM Very Good rated teaching building, as well as an extension to the sports centre.

The teaching building will create 2,500m2 of teaching space and social learning spaces over four-storeys, with a specialist mock ward area to support the College’s health and nursing courses. The 950m2 extension to the sports centre will house a strength gym, running track, therapy suite, dance studio and three new teaching spaces.

The project is due to be on site in Autumn 2020 and completed by Autumn 2021.

Peter Commins, regional director at Kier Construction North West said, “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder by Burnley College on this exciting project. Education is a core sector for our business and we have vast experience delivering high-quality education schemes across the North West. Kier is proud to be supporting the college with the delivery of this first-class teaching facility. We look forward to working alongside Burnley College, Identity Consult and the wider team.”

This latest win for Kier further reinforces its position as a leading provider of education facilities in the UK. In the past ten years Kier has delivered over £5bn of educational facilities and it is currently on site delivering the £35m School of Digital Arts at Manchester Met. The 5,200m2 school will provide five-storeys of state-of-the-art teaching facilities that will bring create, digital, technology and business assets together under one roof.
