The Challenge:

Dragon Lane in Durham is an 58,000 sq ft bulky goods retail development, set close to a Tesco store, in the heart of a residential area.

This multi million pound investment regenerates a current brownfield site, creating new jobs for local people.

The Solution:

Kier’s plans will transform this major redevelopment site by bringing forward a exciting bulkey goods retail environment.

Since the project started on site in August 2018, the team has worked collaboratively to deliver many progressive steps ranging from positive engagement with its supply chain and external partners to engaging with the local Universities to identify areas of need such as apprenticeships, employment initiatives and training new and existing staff.

The scheme will be complete by Summer 2019 and we expect for many new jobs to be created from the project.

The Impact:

The development was acquired by London Metric via a forward funding contract with Kier. It is pre-let to Lidl and The Range for 20 years.

Kier is supporting its contractor with their local skills and employment proposals. Progress is being tracked via a time-lapse camera.
