Wealth of experience
At Kier we have over 70 years of experience delivering everything from major rail projects to the installation of power systems and signaling design and build. We are involved in both HS2 and Crossrail and bring a wide range of skills to these and all our projects, from civils work to tunneling and large earth works. For HS2 we are responsible for all facets of the project, from design through to completion.
The Kier Rail team carry out multidisciplinary rail projects across the UK. Working with us, you will benefit from a range of inhouse capabilities, including design, Early Contractor Involvement, Budget Costing, Programme Management and Project delivery. We are passionate about our values of being collaborative, forward thinking and enthusiastic. This approach builds strong relationships with our customers, helping them deliver projects from GRIP 1 stage (output definition) through to GRIP 8 stage (project close out).
Many of our projects, HS2 included, are run as joint ventures and we are very experienced in working with two or three joint venture partners on projects. Experience has taught us that the way to get the best from a project is to come in as early as possible so we can work closely and collaborate with clients and partners right from the start. We also have the benefit of being part of a larger group with many other sectors to tap into and learn from.

Whatever we are working on, the greatest asset we bring is our people; their experience in delivering highly technical projects on different types of contract in many different locations. With specialist teams for signaling and power Kier has the expertise to offer clients the certainty of cost and certainty of delivery, however big or small a project. Clients also want to see us moving things forward in terms of innovation, safety, digitisation and making as much use of BIM as possible. From delivering HS2 to extending power systems to allow stations to cater for longer trains we’re helping move rail forward.

The Luton DART project is a joint venture project between VolkerFitzpatrick and Kier (VFK). This new state-of-the-art guided mass passenger transit system will link the airport terminal building to Luton Airport Parkway station. Due to open in 2021 it will reduce journey time from the terminal to central London to under 30 minutes.
Supporting the power requirement for ongoing Brighton Main Line signalling renewal works. We installed a Westplex System in order to upgrade a key commuter line to increase the quantity of trains able to utilise the line.
A high profile 3km route clearance of 1500 utility conflicts through Edinburgh city centre, delivered within budget and achieving all programme milestones, whilst minimising disruption to local businesses and residents.
Working with Network Rail to keep the line between Ipswich and Lowestoft up and running. Replacing the line's Radio Electronic Token Block (RETB) system after the frequencies were allocated to the MOD, coming up with a workable solution with the client and ensuring this vital rural connection remained in service.
Constructing two railway tunnels that run for 6.4km between the Royal Oak portal and the new Farringdon Crossrail station in Central London. Huge scale building of station tunnel caverns at Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon for the new Elizabeth line.
Delivering a 100% BIM3 compliant utilities design at one of London’s busiest interchanges, Bank Station. Serving 73 million passengers annually, situated between London Bridge and the Bank of England.
