Crown Street Resource Centre offers short-term, focused help to adults experiencing mental health issues. It is an important resource, but the building was in poor condition. As a result, Liverpool City Council commissioned us to refurbish and extend the centre.
After extensive consultation with service users and staff we remodelled and refurbished the building to provide new, light and airy spaces and new rooms suitable for training and therapeutic activities such as art and woodwork. We also designed new clinical consulting facilities for use by visiting medical staff in compliance with the standards of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
To improve facilities, we created a new extension with new meeting rooms and a café that opens out to the gardens and is open to the local community. In addition, we remodelled the exterior to give it a more attractive appearance, upgraded the existing electrical and heating systems and improved the security systems. The reopened centre has received an extremely positive reception from service users, staff and the local community.
Restoring an iconic building, taking part in feasibility studies to decide the best use of the building, working on the project to turn it into a seven-screen cinema with restaurants, coffee shop and retail units, winning multiple industry awards and creating something of huge importance to local people.
