Kier has secured two additional early contractor involvement (ECI) contracts from Southern Water under its AMP8 Strategic Delivery Partner Framework. The combined value of these contracts is £28.8 million. This award reflects our client’s confidence in Kier’s ability to deliver both clean and wastewater projects.

The first award, Priority Water Treatment Works Growth - Bundle 4 (wastewater), is valued at £23.5 million and covers seven Water Treatment Works: Billingshurst, Dymchurch, Goddards Green, Ham Hill, Northfleet, Sidlesham, and Stockbridge.

These upgrades will enhance capacity and resilience to meet future demand and support population growth. Kier will work with Southern Water to develop innovative, low-carbon solutions that deliver the best value and reduce environmental impact.

The second award, Nitrate Removal Schemes - Batch 1 (water) is valued at £5.3 million and encompasses four Water Supply Works: Madehurst, Patching, Mossy Bottom, and Patcham.

Kier will develop and optimise solutions to lower nitrate levels in accordance with regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with drinking water quality regulations. The ECI phase will concentrate on design progression, constructability, and programme certainty ahead of the main construction phase.

Both contracts will be delivered under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract, incorporating early contractor involvement to enhance efficiency, minimise risk, and support Southern Water’s commitment to sustainability and resilience.

Kier will embed sustainability and social value throughout the ECI phase and beyond. This includes supporting Southern Water’s carbon reduction targets through low-carbon design options, optimising construction methods to minimise waste and energy use, and engaging local supply chains. Kier will also create employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeships and skills development, to deliver lasting benefits for communities across the region.

Andy Beech, framework director at Kier said:

"We are pleased to secure these additional ECI contracts with Southern Water. This reflects the trust our client places in Kier to deliver projects in both clean and wastewater sectors. Our teams will bring extensive technical expertise and a collaborative approach to ensure these projects generate long-term value for Southern Water and its customers."

This award further reinforces Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks’ position as a key delivery partner nationwide in the UK water sector, following recent AMP8 contract wins and renewals with Yorkshire Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water and Severn Trent.
