Our planet does a lot for us: it cleans the air we breathe, protects us from flooding, provides us with food and natural resources.
All essential elements for our everyday lives. However, climate change is putting increasing pressure on our planet and its ability to provide these services, whilst also causing more frequent extreme weather, loss of biodiversity, erosion of soil, and increased pollution.
We need to both reduce our contribution to climate change and adapt to our changing climate, to protect the lives and livelihoods of people and communities. Valuing nature and promoting resource efficiency are key to this effort. By prioritising sustainable practices and responsibly managing our natural resources, we can mitigate environmental impact and ensure that the vital services our planet provides are preserved for future generations.

Climate action – we will reduce carbon emissions and work with clients to build resilient infrastructure against the effects of climate change.
Nature restoration – we will work to protect and enhance biodiversity by managing nature risks and enhancing green spaces.
Resource efficiency – we will work with our supply chain to use resources in a sustainable way throughout a project’s life cycle.

Our strong focus on these topics supports our objectives to reduce our own carbon footprint, as well as that of our supply chain; protect and preserve the natural environment; and manage waste and water effectively. This is how we drive our purpose to sustainably deliver infrastructure that is vital to the UK.

Carbon Reduction Plan
Our Carbon Reduction Plan conforms to the requirements of Procurement Policy Note PPN06/21; 'Taking Account of Carbon Reduction Plans in the procurement of major government contracts' published in February 2025 and the supporting 'Technical standard for the Completion of Carbon Reduction Plans'.
Climate & Nature Report
This report documents Kier’s processes, targets, and performance with regards to scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions and has been prepared in line with the requirements outlined in ISO 14064:2018 - the Taskforce for Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the Taskforce for Nature related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and the Transition Plan Taskforce framework (TPT). It also explores how our operations interact with and depend on nature. It presents our approach to environmental management; supplier engagement and assurance; sustainable design and innovation; and employee initiatives and reports how we are both taking action for the climate and valuing nature in our operations.
