Sustainable procurement at Kier
At Kier, our mission is to sustainably deliver infrastructure which is vital to the UK. Our supply chain is vital to this, and we work in collaboration with our suppliers to leave a sustainable, lasting legacy.
Our Group procurement team has been independently assessed against the ISO20400 standard and were identified as at Mature status in 2025 (3.26/5).
Through our supplier pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ), all new suppliers are assessed against social and environmental criteria.

Our supply chain and social value
We want to enable social impact and make a positive difference within the communities in which we operate. One of the ways we deliver impact is to support small and medium enterprises (SME) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VSCSE) and most of our supply chain is made up of regional SMEs and VCSEs.
As an accredited Real Living Wage (RLW) employer, we remain committed to implementing the RLW for all our contingent workers and contractors. Our objective is that everyone working on a Kier site is paid in accordance with the RLW.
Ethical labour is a key topic with our Building for a Sustainable World framework. As part of this commitment to responsible sourcing and protecting workers throughout our supply chain, we provide Modern Slavery training for suppliers. The training is designed to increase understanding of modern slavery risks, strengthen due diligence practices, and support suppliers in identifying, preventing, and addressing potential instances of exploitation within their own operations and supply chains.
We created a free learning pathway for all our suppliers on the Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS) platform. We encourage suppliers to share and promote the pathway within their own supply chains to drive wider understanding and good practice. We regularly track and monitor completion rates via a dashboard that provides visibility of completion rates by module and have set a target of achieving a 70% completion rate by our Group Preferred Suppliers for the end of FY26.
In 2024, we worked with Unseen and industry peers to create a video on the risks and realities of modern slavery within the construction sector.

Our supply chain and the planet
We’re proud to have retained our CDP Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) A score in our 2025 disclosure and believe supply chain engagement plays an essential part in the success of our climate and environmental plans.
As a founding partner and board member of the SCSS, we work closely with industry peers to upskill and train our shared supply chains. Kier suppliers can access SCSS resources, including e-learning and its carbon calculator tool.
The SCSS carbon calculator tool can be used to both calculate its carbon and allocate the requisite emissions to clients who are members of SCSS. This reduces additional administrative burden for suppliers and ensures consistent data across our industry.
