Kier has been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to redevelop Bournemouth & Poole College’s (B&PC) Bournemouth campus, located in the Lansdowne area, which will serve a range of students from school leavers to adult learners.

This project will include a mixture of new build and refurbishment works. Five of the current buildings on site will be replaced by a single, high tech teaching facility. The remaining Grade II listed buildings on site, will be refurbished with façade and roof repairs and plant room upgrades.

The new build facility will contain teaching space throughout, providing a modern teaching environment for courses in media, computing, sport, fitness, travel, health, social care, hair, beauty, hospitality and catering. It will also feature new amenities which will be made available for community use, including a restaurant, gym and salons. The new building will be net zero carbon in operation, in line with the DfE’s latest output specification requirements, and will incorporate air source heat pump technology and photovoltaic panels on the roof, making it thermally efficient.

"We are delighted to have been appointed by the Department for Education to support Bournemouth and Poole College, the largest provider of further education and apprenticeships in the area, in the transformation of their Bournemouth Campus in the heart of the town.

This project will provide modern facilities for students and the local community and will create a much-needed external green space in the centre of the site which will enhance the students’ experience. We look forward to using our wealth of experience in delivering first class education spaces to deliver this high spec campus which will enrich the community for years to come.”

Cheryl Parsons, regional director at Kier Construction Southern

"The flagship new building and the welcome refurbishment of the Clock Tower Building will secure a brilliant environment for education to the end of this century. It will have a game-changing impact on young people and adult learners from our area, as we train them for the job roles of the future. We are grateful for the attentive work of the team at Kier and other parties, which has got us this point. We can’t wait to see the main works starting on site.”
