Kier has been named Major Contractor of the Year (over £500m) at the 2026 Building Awards, one of the construction industry’s most prestigious and long-established awards ceremonies.

The award recognises work that demonstrates outstanding features and innovative solutions to difficult problems.

Alongside the nationally significant infrastructure Kier works on, the company’s nomination highlighted a partnership-first mindset at the heart of Kier’s approach, its end-to-end capabilities and high-performing culture. It also focused on the economic and social impact Kier’s projects deliver, including through its corporate charity partnership and investment in apprentices and NEETs.

The judges praised Kier for the scale of the business’ turnaround and its ability to sustain that momentum. They also praised its sound business strategy and the strength and breadth of its work across both the public and private sectors.

Stuart Togwell, chief executive, said:

Winning Major Contractor of the Year (over £500m) is a great achievement and recognition of the hard work of our people across Kier. It’s particularly pleasing to see the judges recognise the momentum we’ve built, the strength of our strategy and the impact we’re making across both the public and private sectors. We have strong foundations and our new strategy, focused on growth, resilience and performance, gives us a clear framework for the next phase of our ambitions. This award is an important recognition of the progress we’ve made, and I’d like to thank our people, customers and partners for the trust they place in us, and working together to deliver critical infrastructure for the UK.

This is the latest award for the Group, over the past year the award has won national, sector and regional awards for project delivery, safety and its approach to people and talent.
