The Challenge:
Falmouth School were looking to improve their sports facilities as part of their aspirations to become a Sports Centre of Excellence. As part of the developments, they had a requirement for an all-purpose sports pitch serviced with a pavilion with changing rooms.
The client had already designed the building and secured planning permission for the scheme, however they were faced with a budget deficit.
The project would need to be completed within 35 weeks and meet Football Association (FA) regulations.

The Solution:
The project was contracted through the Scape National Minor Works Framework and Kier worked extensively with the customer to design a value engineered facility to deliver their requirements, whilst avoiding the need for a revised full planning application.
Logistics were challenging due to the client procuring the installation of the sports pitch via a FA approved supplier which resulted in limited room around the perimeter of the building. This also required close communication with the pitch contractor regarding logistics and co-ordination of both adjacent projects.
Monthly progress meetings were held on site, the client’s project manager also visited site weekly to gain an update on the progress.

The Impact:
The project was delivered on time and to the customer’s satisfaction, with Kier achieving a 9/10 Client satisfaction score.
The local economy and community were supported through a local supply chain, with 95% of overall spend coming within twenty miles of the site. Furthermore, a local labour force was utilised, with 80% living within twenty-mile radius of the project.
The all-weather sports pitch and changing facilities can now be enjoyed by Falmouth School as they strive towards their Sports Centre of Excellence aspirations.
" The whole of our school and college community is thrilled with the facility and there is great excitement about the opportunities this brings. Falmouth School has improved sport, fitness and health opportunities for our students and the wider community through this development for years to comment. "Jem Wallis Director of Sport Falmouth School
