The Challenge:

Carrying out a significant amount of work while the retail park continued to trade as normal. This included having to achieve 20 sectional handover dates and coping with even greater restrictions when work on roads and car parks were prohibited during heavy trading periods such as Christmas.

The Solution:

Communication was the key to overcoming the challenges and completing the job with the least possible disruption. This started with discussions, consultations and listening to both the client and other interested parties including tenants. Following this measures were put in place to keep everyone aware of what was going on at every stage.

Stakeholders were kept up-to-date via a tenant liaison officer as well as newsletters. Traffic Management Plans were established for every phase and the Glasgow Fort Centre management team was given prior notice of the timings of each phase via pre-planning meetings. Allowing all parties to comment on the plans in advance of the works and any amendments made ensured safety as always prioritised.

Vehicles coming to and from the site were also encouraged to avoid customer traffic routes wherever possible via clear and concise directional signage.

The Impact:

By following these stringent controls, the centre continued to operate as normal with free-flowing access to the car parks and shops throughout the build period.
