Kier has secured two more Stage 1 Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contracts with Southern Water under the water company’s £3.1bn Strategic Delivery Partner framework for AMP8, continuing its role in delivering major water infrastructure upgrades across East Sussex and Brighton.
The latest awards include the Hastings Resilience programme alongside the Brighton East nitrate removal scheme.
Together, the schemes support Southern Water’s wider AMP8 plans to strengthen resilience, protect water quality and improve environmental performance.
The Hastings Resilience programme is expected to have a delivery value of more than £30m and will support long-term improvements to resilience, treatment performance and security of supply across the Hastings supply system.
As part of the Hastings Resilience programme, at Brede Water Supply Works, Kier has secured a Stage 1 ECI work covering upgrades to rapid gravity filters, high lift pumping stations, clear water tanks, disinfection processes and discharge systems. Additional resilience and discharge improvement works will also be progressed at Beauport Water Supply Works.
At Brighton East Water Supply Works, Kier has secured a Stage 1 ECI work to support nitrate removal improvements through new treatment infrastructure, network reconfiguration and upgrades to raw water transfer and treatment processes linked to the Brighton East and Falmer supply network.
Kier is currently working with Southern Water on 31 projects in Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), reflecting the scale of AMP8 activity now progressing through development and delivery. These projects have a combined ECI value of £104m, with the associated construction value projected to exceed £480m as schemes progress into delivery.
Andy Lingham, managing director for Water at Kier Infrastructure, said:
These latest awards continue to build on our relationship with Southern Water and reflect the level of investment now moving through AMP8. The work spans critical operational infrastructure upgrades that will help improve resilience, treatment performance and regulatory compliance across the network. Delivering these schemes requires close collaboration between operational, design and delivery teams from the earliest stages of development to help achieve the right long-term outcomes. That early involvement helps us reduce risk, improve constructability and develop efficient solutions before work starts on site.
Michael Grant, Director of Capital Delivery at Southern Water said:
The resilience and treatment upgrades will protect water quality and improve environmental performance, supporting population growth and meeting future demands across our region.
